The canton of St.Gallen now pays German learners 10 francs per lesson. In favourable cases, this covers up to 75% of the total course costs. Language enables participation in society and working life. This regulation applies to courses starting from 1 January 2026.

Proof of language competence must be provided for family reunification, residence and settlement permits as well as ordinary and facilitated naturalisation.
